Yesterday was the Cub Scout pinewood derby competition. Jason is a Webelo I in the Dragon Patrol this year. He spent considerable more time on the car than in years past. Thanks to Mikel White for teaching him the use of the band saw, a belt sander, and a drill press. Jason also learned what is supposed to go into a garage in our 2 trips over to Mikel's house.
At the competition check in, they arbitrarily assign your car a sticker number. Jason got lucky 55 which made me think of Sammy Haggar.
There were a lot of Webelo cars this year and each car ran 6 heats, one in each lane. Jason didn't place in the top 3 overall, but he did win 2 of his 6 heats. Pretty good since most of the cars were made by Dads rather than Cubscouts. I can say that Jason did most of his car including the critical axle installation. Nice job Jason!

Jason's 2015 Pinewood Derby Car. Note that he tilted the back wheels at an angle - he saw on a Youtube video that speeds up the car. The black smears are graphite (aka "speed" of which he liberally applied everywhere). He thought the black marks made the car look like hard working lightning. |
